Edith McBee Hardaway
I am an artist living in Greenville, South Carolina. My work “realistic abstract,” and I employ a variety of unconventional materials to create spontaneous pieces with rich textures and lively forms. I create my paintings through an unstructured process that involves flexibility and improvisation.
I grew up in the Spartanburg, Greenville area and have enjoyed creating art from an early age. I studied Studio Art at Columbia College, and earned a degree in graphic design from Greenville Technical College. I worked in the graphic arts field for 10 years and I continue to teach my techniques to children and adults alike in workshops.
In 2007, I along with several other local artists opened the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville, on North Main Street. I maintain permanent gallery space here and serve as the President and Founding member. The AGGG is celebrating 15 years of business and is currently the oldest co-operative art gallery in Greenville.
Over the past several years I have participated in Greenville Open Studios, Flat out Under Pressure, have shown at Center Stage, Warehouse Theater, UBS gallery, Blood Connection, The Cliffs, Anderson and Pickens Museums to name a few. I have entered numerous art shows and have received awards for my work in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and national art competitions.
